May 5, 2012 the Kansas City Atheist Coalition expressed our support for Starbucks Coffee Company at the JC Nicols Fountain on the Country Club Plaza. Afterwards we walked to Starbucks on the Plaza and enjoyed cool drinks with friends.

The National Organization of Marriage (NOM) launched an international boycott campaign called “Dump Starbucks” in response to the Seattle-based coffee chain’s vocal support for Washington state legislation recognizing marriage equality for same-sex couples.
“This important legislation is aligned with Starbucks’ business practices and upholds our belief in the equal treatment of partners," Kalen Holmes, Starbucks' executive vice president, said in a statement to the Seattle Times.
Brian Brown, NOM’s president, announced the "Dump Starbucks" campaign in March after the annual Starbucks shareholders meeting, where NOM spokesmen questioned the board on the company’s support of the same-sex marriage legislation.
